CapitalRelay — Personal Financing Planner

Compare three honest routes with the same starting position and the same dates: pay extra principal directly (A), finance a payoff with a policy loan from a participating whole life policy and then repay that loan (B), or keep the policy and retain savings (C) — plus any other debts you add. Borrowing is never assumed to win: the model reports when policy-backed financing helps, hurts, or is largely neutral.

Educational simulation, not an insurance illustration or financial recommendation. Policy assumptions are hypothetical until you enter and confirm an actual carrier illustration. A favorable projection does not establish that an insurance contract is suitable, and an unloaned illustration is not proof of performance after borrowing — loaned scenarios require a carrier reillustration. MEC status and contribution limits must be confirmed from carrier information.
Validates every input and the carrier illustration first. Everything runs in this browser.

Client cases — save & reopen

Start here

This is how you and your colleague pick up the same work. A case file saves everything for one client — profile, mortgage and debts, policy details, and the full carrier illustration schedule — as one file on your computer. Open that file on any computer at capitalrelay.briantoddinsurance.com and the workspace restores exactly, then recalculates. Keep the original carrier PDF alongside the case file for your records; the schedule inside the case file is the copy CapitalRelay calculates from.

1 · Work the caseEnter the client below and upload / confirm the carrier illustration in §03.
2 · Save the caseClick Save client case. The file is named for the client — keep it in your client folder or shared drive.
3 · Reopen anytimeClick Open client case and choose the file. Inputs, debts, and illustration come back — never the previous person's data.
4 · Report & PDFUse Generate Client Report, then Download PDF Report in the report to share the finished “[Client Name] CapitalRelay Report.pdf”.

Case files vs. report files: a case file (this panel) restores the workspace so you can keep working. A complete report file (in the Client Report toolbar) restores a finished, verified report. A template file saves only report wording and layout. All three are different — the opener will tell you if you pick the wrong kind. There is no account or cloud copy in this testing phase: if you don't save the file, the work isn't kept.

Upload your carrier illustration (PDF, CSV, or TXT)

Drop a file here, or browse for it. The file is read in this browser only — it is not uploaded to a server. CapitalRelay extracts the year-by-year cash surrender values (guaranteed and non-guaranteed kept separate), plus any premium and loan rate it can find, and stages everything for your manual confirmation. Nothing is applied until you click Confirm & apply, and your entered cash value today is never overwritten to force a schedule match.

No illustration file loaded yet. After extraction, check the schedule row by row against your illustration's ledger before trusting a run — PDF column layouts vary by carrier, and a scanned-image PDF with no text layer cannot be read this way (use the carrier CSV/TXT export or paste the table instead).
Hypothetical modeling only. The assumed return and premium efficiency below are not policy guarantees or a substitute for a carrier illustration.

Add a mortgage-free obligation of any kind — vehicle loan, credit card, personal loan, or other financing. Minimum payments are required; extra repayments go to the highest APR first.

Scenario results

Illustrative only

No result is treated as valid if a required payment cannot be funded, a carrier schedule is missing, or a borrowing limit is breached.

Net worth on the same date

Fair comparison

At each selected horizon, every strategy uses identical initial cash, mortgage, consumer debt, and home value. The retain-savings scenario keeps unused cash rather than pretending it vanished.

Net worth = home value + checking cash + net policy surrender value − mortgage − consumer debts. Borrowed money is a liability, available borrowing capacity is not an asset, and death benefit is never counted as spendable wealth. This excludes taxes, future home appreciation, investment returns, and potential surrender consequences.

Mortgage balances over time

Same axis for every strategy

The full client-facing visuals — total debt including policy loans, net worth by strategy, and policy capital development — are built in the Client Report.

Advisor financial details — calculations, schedules & ledgers

Advisor-only financial detail: amortization and loan schedules, cash-flow reconciliation, the policy ledger, and the assumptions behind the client report. None of this appears in the client report.

Capital efficiency — policy position at year 10

Figures are for the policy-loan financing run (B) at year 10 unless noted. Gross cash value is shown before loans; net cash value is gross minus the outstanding loan. Borrowing capacity is not an asset and is not added to net worth.

Household net worth at common horizons — all strategies

Carrier reillustration: if the financing run borrows against the policy, the unloaned illustration (or hypothetical estimate) does not prove performance after borrowing. Request an in-force carrier reillustration reflecting loan balances, dividends, loan recognition, and repayment before acting.

Policy lifecycle & annual policy ledger

Stages are counted from the policy-loan financing run (B). Retirement distributions are modeled as what they actually are — policy loans (a liability), surrenders (policy value converted to cash), or dividends (capped at the illustrated dividend in carrier mode) — never as generic investment income.

Calculating…

Annual policy ledger

One row per policy year. Carrier-supplied rows come from your imported ledger; hypothetical rows are independently simulated and labeled. Blank means the carrier document did not supply the value — it is not estimated here.

External alternative — same dollars, different vehicle

The same premium + PUA dollars, redirected monthly into an external savings/investment account at an explicit return, tax drag, and replacement-insurance cost. A comparison with the insurance cost set to $0 while claiming the same death benefit is stacked, and this panel will not hide that line.

Calculating…

Single policy-loan decision check

Evaluate one proposed policy loan on its own merits — not the maximum you could borrow. The verdict compares interest cost only, on that amount in isolation; affordability, reserves, coverage suitability, and total economic cost govern the real decision.

Enter a proposal and evaluate it. A loan that breaches your reserve, cannot be repaid from real cash flow, or costs more than the debt it replaces will be shown as weakening your position.

Policy-loan schedule (financed amounts)

Every financed amount creates a matching policy-loan obligation, with interest accruing until repaid from household cash flow.

Ledger & integrity checks

First 12 monthly entries are shown. Every valid month must preserve the protected cash floor and reconcile sources and uses.

Stress tests — where plans break

Model limitations

  • Monthly calculations, not daily payoff/deposit routing; there is no claimed daily-interest arbitrage.
  • Hypothetical cash-value mechanics are simplified and do not represent a contract's guarantees, dividend options, MEC testing, loan recognition, taxes, or surrender charges.
  • Carrier schedule mode requires verified annual gross surrender values. Missing columns or years fail closed; monthly values are interpolated, not provided by the carrier.
  • PDF illustration upload reads the PDF's text layer in this browser with PDF.js. It cannot read scanned-image PDFs with no text layer, and column mapping varies by carrier — the extracted schedule must be checked against the carrier ledger before use. The PDF itself is never sent to a server.
  • Carrier unloaned values may change with policy loans, dividends, and premium changes; reillustration by the carrier is necessary to validate borrowing strategies.
  • A loaned policy can lapse if the loan plus accrued interest outgrows cash value — the model stops a run when the loan breaches the borrowing-capacity guardrail you enter. MEC status and contribution limits must be confirmed from carrier information; no generic calculator is a definitive MEC test.
  • All calculations are performed in this browser. This page contains no analytics, cloud service, or upload endpoint, and its results are not an independent financial certification.
